Here is a list of some of the most common questions our team at Buffalo Epoxy Flooring gets asked on a regular basis...
Q - What benefits does concrete offer interior and exterior areas? A – There are many reasons why concrete floors are an ideal flooring option including their cost-effectiveness, durability and the ability to make them attractive in order to match the existing décor and style of the room. Concrete flooring is not the cheapest flooring option available, however it lasts much longer than alternative flooring and the pricing can still be less than that of a high-end floor. You won’t need to plan on replacing it and won’t have to make time for waxing or stripping throughout the year. Q – Is it expensive to have concrete floors installed? A – Concrete might appear to be higher in cost than you hoped, but it’s very affordable when you compare it to high-end options like marble, slate, and tile. Concrete can be decorated to appear like a high-end slate floor and only you will know the difference. In addition, the cost you spend to have concrete flooring installed will be the only flooring cost you will have to worry about because it far outlasts the alternatives. Q – Concrete is cold and damp isn’t it? A – While concrete is colder to the touch, it is no more cold than natural stone or even ceramic tile flooring. The dampness can occur from moisture vapor but this only occurs when the floor isn’t properly insulated or the concrete as placed on a sub base that doesn’t drain properly. Your concrete flooring doesn’t have to be cold though because it has thermal properties that allow it retain and radiate heat. There are ways to ensure your flooring isn’t ‘too cold’ and we’d be happy to assist you further when you give us a call. Q – Is concrete flooring very slippery? A – While some concrete floors can definitely get slippery, mostly when water is on the surface, they are no more slippery than alternative floors; ceramic tile, marble, linoleum, and vinyl. We do have a non-slip additive that can be integrated with your concrete flooring to ensure the safety of anyone walking on it. Q – Are concrete floors quiet? A – Concrete floors have the ability to be fairly loud and sometimes cause an echo, but so does hardwood, bamboo, natural stone and ceramic tile flooring. Luckily, you can easily reduce the noise in a concrete floor via materials that absorb sound like wall tapestries and fabrics, curtains and even area rugs. Q – Is it hard to maintain concrete flooring? A – While just about every type of flooring requires maintenance in some form or another, concrete floors happen to be rather easy in comparison to many alternative flooring options. So, no, they aren’t hard to maintain, but do require some effort from the property owner to ensure they stay in good condition. When concrete flooring is installed in residential properties there is less traffic and therefore the floors are easier to clean, requiring sweeping and the occasional damp mopping now and again. If any concrete floor has a superior sealer and floor finish or wax in place for surface protection they become even easier to maintain and keep clean while resisting damage from chemicals, abrasion and staining.
